Winter Sore Throat Tea Base

Winter Sore Throat "Tea"
(This is not my own recipe.  This recipe was copied and shared on Facebook too many times to know who the original author is.)
I will be experimenting with this recipe this weekend and will let you know if the measurements of the ingredients work out.
sore throat tea

Make sure you have some of this ready...great recipe for sore throats and chest colds.  It makes about 2 cups.

  • 2 lemons thoroughly cleaned and sliced
  • 2 piece of ginger about the size of your pointer and middle finger together sliced into coin size pieces
  • Honey (about 1 cup-maybe more)
In a 12-16 oz. jar combine lemon slices and sliced ginger. Pour honey (organic is best) over it slowly. This may take a little time to let the honey sink down and around the lemon and ginger slices. Make sure when the honey has filled in all the voids, there is enough to cover the top of the lemon slices. Close jar and put it in the fridge, it will form into a "jelly". To serve: Spoon jelly into mug and pour boiling water over it. Store in fridge 2-3 months.

Apple Crisp Recipe and Apple Peeler Gadget

APPLE CRISP

(I usually double this recipe.)

6 large peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples

Preheat oven to 350*

Apple mixture ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt

Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and salt and pour over sliced apples.

Topping Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1/2 stick of butter (6 tsp) (do not melt - let it soften naturally)
2 Tbls brown sugar
10 cinnamon graham crackers - coarsely chopped (about 1-1/2 cups)

Combine flour and sugar in a medium bowl. Cut-in the butter with a pastry blender (if you don't have a pastry blender, use 2 butter knives in a cris-cross cutting motion) until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

Gently stir in coarsely chopped graham crackers, and then sprinkle this topping over apples. Cover loosely with foil.

Bake for 30 minutes or until apples are tender. Then remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes to brown the top.

My Birthday Cake

Hi Everyone! Sorry for being such a downer yesterday. I'm rallying today and by the end of the week, April 7th will be a distant memory! ;-}

Here is the cake I made myself. It's sooooo yummy!!

Ingredients:
2 small Strawberry Jello
2 small Pistachio Instant Pudding
One bag of frozen strawberries (thawed and drained) or fresh if you have time
1 to 1-1/2 small containers of Cool Whip
One Angel Food Cake (or plain white cake if you prefer)

Break up the Angel Food Cake into pieces in the bottom of a glass dish, and sprinkle the strawberries around. Make Jello according to box directions, then pour over Angel Food Cake. Let set for approx 4 hours. Then make pudding according to box directions and then pour over the Jello, cake, and strawberries. Use spatula to smooth out. Let set for about an hour. Then spread Cool Whip on top.

NOTE: If using 1% or skim milk for the pudding, reduce the amount of milk by a couple of tablespoons or it will set too soft. There is no exact science to this.)

ENJOY!
