A Little of This-N-That

Hi!  Hope everyone had a good day today!!  I thought I would share a couple of things with you this evening, before I forget to.  I’ve been procrastinating on a few things, and updating my blog is one of them.

First, I’d like to share with everyone a picture of the most recent charity project.  It’s Project 9 with Craft Hope.  This project was to make and/or decorate pillowcases that will go to Conkerr Cancer; a nonprofit who distributes the pillowcases to terminally ill children throughout the country.  Visit both websites for information and details, please.
I didn’t want to sew the pillowcases, so I bought them at Walmart and embellished them instead.  I quickly sewed little pouches and embellished them. Then I used Velcro to for the closure, and Velcro to adhere it to the pillowcase.  I wanted the kids to have a little secret area they could put things like money, and when they go to open up the pouch for themselves, they will find 2 crocheted small hearts – just to let them know they are loved!!

These tomatoes are from my garden.  There are Big Boy, Roma, and cherry in the colander.  I’m going to take my friend Kathy’s advice and chop these up, blanch and freeze them.  That way, I can use them for salsa when I’m ready to make a batch. We haven’t had a taste for it lately, so this is a great way to save for when we do want some!!

These are pictures from yesterday. I had Grandma by myself yesterday, so I thought I would take some pictures of her with her cat and my dog begging for food!! Her cat’s name is Rocky, and is part minx and bobcat.  He has orange eyes.  He’s really a pretty cool cat, but is a little dangerous at times. He is so fast that when he runs past us, he gets under our feet and scares us. I worry that he’s going to scare grandma by darting around so quickly and make her trip and fall one of these days. (By the way, she is wearing the headphones I bought her. She’s so hard of hearing that we can’t take how loud she sets the volume, so this way, we/I don’t have to listen to it!!!!)

Have a great night!!  See ya soon!

CRAFT HOPE for Haiti!!

Craft Hope for Haiti Shop Spreading seeds of hope one stitch at a time

"Our Etsy shop will benefit Doctors Without Borders, with 100% of the proceeds going to them. The medical need in Haiti right now is acute. The Doctors Without Borders existing facilities are so badly damaged, they are no longer functional. Post-earthquake medical care will be from tents. So far they have treated 1,500 people – 500 of them need immediate major surgery. There are no facilities to do this in Haiti currently. An inflatable hospital should be arriving in Haiti today.

The shop will remain open as long as we have donations to fill it up! Thanks to everyone for spreading a little hope to those in Haiti."

PLEASE..... EVERYONE VISIT THEIR WEBSITE AND THEIR ETSY STORE TO PURCHASE SOMETHING OR DONATE A HAND-MADE ITEM!!

Saturday Stuff

Hi Everyone! How’s your weekend going?  It was such a beautiful day today.  I got a few more projects done today and it feels good to check them off the list.

The major project for today was to refinish and modernize the light fixture outside our front door.  Normal people would just go and buy a new one, but I didn’t think we needed to spend the money when I knew I could update the look with a few simple changes.

First I used a wire brush on the metal, then wiped down all the parts and sprayed a fresh coat of paint.  Then I cut two pieces of Plexiglass to replace the ugly yellow glass that was in there originally.  I reassembled everything and viola!  An updated light fixture.

By the way, I found a website with a lot of good information about roses.  If you grow roses, click here to check it out.  I noticed that one of my rose bushes has holes in some of the leaves and I wanted to find out exactly what the bug is so I can stop it now before it does any real damage.

Oh…. remember the other day I said I was going to that Ollie’s flea market?  Well, I didn’t go because I had to do some work on the website project.  Anyhow, I was wrong… it’s not a flea market.  It’s a bargain outlet.  Hopefully we’re going tomorrow.  I’ll let you know if it really is a bargain outlet or a rip off.

Show and Tell

Hi Everyone! Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

It was really nice today, but I wasn’t able to work in the yard because I had a few projects to finish.  The first one is this thrift store stool that I bought for grandma; to put her feet up on in the family room.  I almost forgot to take the “before” picture, but luckily I had my cell phone with me, which has a camera.  Just look at this sad-looking piece of furniture! Poor thing!

Transformation in motion:
0527091418  Two coats of paint and one coat of polyurethane.
I fashioned three pillow supports from the denim scraps and embellished them with silver eyelets.
The pillow-top is made out of a piece of dense foam wrapped in batting, then I sewed a denim cover.
  Viola!

This bench is my grandfather’s memorial bench.  I can’t remember who gave it to grandma as a memorial gift.  Anyhow, the slats were replaced by my brother, but they were unfinished so I sanded and brushed on two coats of polyurethane to protect the wood.

Friday:  After I made a dent in the flower loot that we picked up on Wednesday, this is what is left.  Most of it are flowers for the pots on the deck, two rose bushes for my rose garden, and the rest are veggies plants to be planted tomorrow (Sunday) I hope!

Thanks for letting me share my latest projects!  Are there any projects you’re working on?

Crafts From Last Week

Hi Everyone!  I was MIA for a little while because I was in a "mood".  I didn't feel like posting.  But the bug is out of the butt now, and AWAY WE GO!!

These wool felted foo-foo coffee cup pin cushion idea was taken from Betz White.  Of course mine aren't as nice as hers, but I'm happy with how these turned out.

I had some smaller pieces left over so I thought I would try making miniature ones.  I think they look okay, but not as cute as the other ones.

You're probably wondering how it is that I have so much time to work on my craft projects?  Well, work has been slow and the winter has been long.  I have more pictures of projects, but I will stretch out the posts so you don't have to read one long boring post!

I hope you are all doing well!  If you have a few extra minutes, leave me an e-mail.... I would love to hear from you!

Crafty Weekend

Good Afternoon!  I've been busy at play!
Here is a picture of my version the cupcake pincushion.  I didn't have the ribbed portion of the sweater that creates the paper cupcake holder, but I think I worked out okay.  I'm going to keep this as a sample and make a bunch more for gifts.  It was so much fun!  (Little things amuse me now-a-days!)

Here is a pic of a tote I made from a recycled felted wool sweater.  I'm not a terrific sewer, but the job got done.  I'm not sure if I would actually use this, but I suppose it would make a nice gift for someone to carry books and such in.

Time for a crafting break.  I need to work on a new banner for my blog.  I also promised a blog-friend that I would work on her blog too.

Have a great afternoon Everyone!!
