Kathy's Wheelchair Lapghan (knock-off)

DSC01477 (Small)

Hi!  I was blurfing (blog surfing) a few weeks ago and came across the prettiest wheelchair lapghan that Kathy made (Kathy's Crochet Cabin).  I really wanted to make one too, so I contacted her for the pattern.  Poor Kathy! I must have drove her nuts!!  She wrote out great directions, but I couldn't figure out row 4 for the life of me.  She even was kind enough to take step-by-step pictures of what the stitch should look like, but I still couldn't figure it out. It's not her fault! I just had a brain-fart when it came to that step.

Well, here is my version of Kathy's pattern.  (It isn't as pretty as Kathy's.) This experiment has made me want to learn how to make prettier edging. I love the shell/scallop edging on hers, but I didn't try it on mine.

Kathy, thank you so much for taking the time to write out your pattern and to take pictures. It was KIND and GENEROUS of you!

My lapghan pattern:

Hook size "N"

Starting chain of 82.
Row 1 and 2:  SC one whole row.
Row 3:  DC one whole row.
Row 4:  DC then chain 1, *(repeat for whole row).
Row 5-103: * rows 2, 3, 4.
Row 104:  SC one whole row.

RECOMMENDED EDGING:  (Since your last row (#104) is SC, it acts as an anchor for the edging.)  At the end of row #104, CH 4 and turn.
Edging row 2:  Skip next 2 SC, SS in next SC, repeat.  Join with a slip stitch to the first SC.  (You may have to adjust your stitches as you approach the first chain 4 by skipping 3 stitches instead of 2.)  Repeat rows 1 and 2 to be aesthetically pleasing.

Hi Melisa. Good job! :) I recently found Kathy's Crochet Cabin, and I love her pattern, too. I made her Wheelchair Lapghan, too. Here's mine if you'd like to take a look:
